ARTIST'S STATEMENT
I often find myself walking down the sidewalk and picking up a fallen leaf that has captured my attention, picking a flower in the garden, or gathering small but special objects or photographs that I have collected over the years. I bring them into my digital studio to begin the process of creating a new piece of art.
Putting these found and treasured objects on the scanner, I start the magical journey of transformation. Sometimes the object maintains a visual sense of what it actually was, and other times even I have forgotten the original source.
This process reminds me of the many years I spent doing textile art with hand dyeing and printing techniques, whereby I would transform a plain piece of cloth into a multicolored and textured piece of art. The binding, stitching, painting, layering and printing utilized in making is similar to the digital art creation process due to the nature of the technology. There is also an element of unpredictability which, to me, makes the outcome even more exciting.
It is this sense of wonder and chance that I hope to capture in my work, and to share it with the viewer.
